Women who observe the Santoshi Maa vrata, a ritual fast, on 16 back-to-back Fridays receive the Goddess' favor. She is thought to have been born on the day of Raksha Bandhan, also known as Rakhi in Nepal and Janai Purnima. She is supposed to have Venus and Neptune as grahas (planets with significance in the Nepali birth calendar and life of a Hindu). In Kathmandu, there are not many temples dedicated to Maata Santoshi. At Nag Pokhari, just on the grounds of the pond, is one of the primary temples.
