Turkish Airlines, the national flag carrier of Turkey announced a sponsorship agreement with River Plate football team, an Argentinian team. The partnership will last from the 2019-2020 season till the end of 2021-2022 season. Turkish Airlines’ logo will be donned on River Plate Jerseys. This agreement makes Turkish Airlines the first airline to sponsor River Plates football team.
The match against Lanús on Sunday August 4 will be the first time where River Plate’s official uniform will carry the logo of Turkish Airlines.
“We believe that this partnership enhances Turkish Airlines' interest in supporting athletics, which remind us of the passion and dedication and the importance of teamwork to achieve success,” said İlker Aycı, Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee.
The Turkish national flag carrier airline sponsored UEFA Euro 2016 as well as important clubs such as Barcelona, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund. Turkish Airlines has also achieved significant success in its commercials, which have starred famous footballers Lionel Messi and Didier Drogba. This shows Turkish Airlines’ investment and interest in sports over the years.
River Plate was founded in 1901 and took its name from the common English name for the Rio de Plata. Along with its historic rival Boca Juniors, both are the biggest football clubs in Argentina, gathering the major number of fans.
