The tradition of domestic tourists visiting tourist spots during festivals and holidays, and relishing the taste of organic food at home is increasing. Out of 28 community homestay in Baglung, a dozen farmstay have become famous among tourists. The concept of agricultural tourism has also been introduced in Baglung, where farmstay tourism has started to flourish.
Kedar Acharya of Jaimini Municipality-10 Rankhani has launched 'Dhorpatan Family Farmstay' targeting agricultural tourists. Farmstay has been brought into operation in the lap of Handikot, which is a popular tourist destination of Jaimini. Kedar Acharya, the owner of Acharya Organic Model Agricultural Farm, who has been introducing new fruits and herbs since 2073, has introduced the concept of 'farmstay' with the management of staying in the farm in a comfortable manner with the taste of organic food along with studying and observing agriculture.
38-year-old Acharya returned to Nepal after seeing the potential in agriculture after working in Malaysia for three years. It takes one and a half hours to reach Handikot by foot from the farmstay. Recently, there has been a significant increase in the number of tourists coming to Handikot, so it is said that the farm stay will help. Stating that he was attracted to the agricultural profession after going to Malaysia, Acharya has the goal of bringing a package program to the tourists coming to the farm stay, and seeing various sights including Jaimini's Handikot, Maikosthan and stone quarry. In Acharya's five plantations, there is gadyula cultivation, beekeeping, fruit plant nursery, and herb plant nursery, while in the other 15 plantations, cardamom, fruit garden, mushroom, and herb cultivation are there.
In fruits, oranges, lemons, avocados, kiwis, sugarcane, mangoes, walnuts, Japanese pears, terry and ajir are being produced. Similarly, ashwagandha, rosemary, satuwa, timur, gurjo and bihari laho are being cultivated in the herb cultivation. Local chickens, ducks, and turkeys are also reared for food.
This is a new concept. With the agricultural farms being organically targeted, the main goal is to make the village into a hub for agricultural tourism, and the concept of agro-tourism has been successful in Nepal, to attract tourists by producing pesticide-free fruits, vegetables and grains. Now agricultural experts and domestic tourists have come to observe and study the firm. It is a big concept and it will take a long time to complete it.
Businessman Acharya has already invested more than Rs 55 lakh for organic firm and Dhorpatan family farmstay. He has also received good support from the government. The firm has already received grants of Rs. 27 lakhs from the federal, state and local bodies.
He has divided his organic farm into two parts. The first is a testing center and the second is commercial production. He has good support from other family members in his farm and workers are assigned on a wage basis, according to the season. Acharya has been studying, researching, experimenting, and producing in 20 types of organic agriculture.
He has been increasing his agricultural knowledge by studying various agricultural farms of Nepal in his spare time. Dhorpatan Family Farmstay established by Acharya will provide food, accommodation and learning activities to students, professors, government officials, researchers, interns, volunteers, etc.
The story of a young man, who went to Malaysia for employment, learned the value of his own country from a foreigner and started in his native land an operating farmstay.
“The farmstay was operated for the first time in Baglung with the technical and coordination of Eco Gharbas. Dhorpatan Family Farmstay has been launched targeting foreign volunteers, students and tourists studying agriculture and agronomy,” said Kedar Acharya, the owner of the firm.
"For study and research, I am producing fruit and herb plants on five plots of land, in the same place, we are also cultivating earthworm, and on another 15 plots of land, I am doing commercial cultivation of fruits, vegetables and herbs. Many agricultural experts, tourists and people from government agencies came to observe, but they did not have facilities to eat and stay. That is why I dreamed of establishing an agro-resort,” he added._Rss
