Kulekhani is a small village in Makwanpur District in the southern part of Nepal with a manmade lake. The place is surrounded by mighty hills with the Kulekhani River flowing below. The river is the major irrigation source in the area.

The place astonishes travelers with its picture-perfect views. It is known as the land of Indrasarobar of Nepal.

Kulekhani Dam 

Kulekhani is famously known for the Kulekhani Dam. It is a manmade dam built for the purpose of generating electricity. The natural beauty and unique scenery attracts many travelers to the place. People from Kathmandu and Hetauda call it the alternative to Fewa Lake.


Markhu is another small town on the banks of the Kulekhani Dam and also one of the best places to hike to in the loop.


Boating along the dam and the Markhu River is another major attraction of the place. Camping and fishing is very popular here among visitors.

Sheep farms and green pasture land here has helped it earn the reputation as a grassland gem.

Champa Devi hike in the Champa Devi hills. The hike provides an overview of the whole Kathmandu valley along with panoramic views of Annapurna, Langtang, Everest, Ganesh, Dorje and Lakpa.

One of the major places to visit near Kulekhani. It takes about 2 hours to drive there from Kulekhani. The natural swimming pool has unique features. The cold crystal clear aqua green water is the main attraction of this place.



Getting there

Kulekhan iis 46.9 km from Kathmandu. Buses, jeeps, vans are available from Kathmandu. It can be the best place to visit to get away from all the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.
