An initiative to increase tourist traffic and raise awareness about various communities

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Adikabi Bhanubhakta Acharya, the Araniko Cultural museum was relocated from Maisthan Temple to Ilam Durbar Square. State Assembly member, Dhirendra Sharma, inaugurated the museum on Sunday. The Ilam Durbar Square was earlier occupied by District Administration Office (DAO). After the DAO shifted to its new building, the historical heritage site was lying vacant thus being the apt spot for the re-location of the museum. Ilam municipality’s literature, art and music academy took this initiative.

Ilam durbar was built by Junga Bahadur Rana's son-in-law, Gajaraj Singh Thapa, the then high-placed official in the year 1919. On this auspicious occasion, renowned historian Yuddha Prasad Baidya released a book named ‘Ilam: History and development.’ Similarly, Komal Niraula also released a lyrical album. Various other literary figures also recited Ramayana stanzas at the programme which was presided over by Academy Chair, Tika Ghimire.

The rehabilitated museum has a collection of materials reflecting indigenous cultural identity of different castes and communities. Furthermore, the museum authorities hope this initiative will help make people aware of the importance of Ilam and give tourists and visitors a n even bigger reason to stay
