Facilitating security and convenience for tourists, the ceremony inaugurated the Metropolitan Tourism Information Centre and introduced the Tourist Police Mobile App

The ‘Metropolitan Tourism Information Centre’ was inaugurated on July 3 with the support of the Department of Tourism and the Kathmandu Metropolis-26 on the initiation of Tourist Police, Bhrikutimandap. The newly established centre is equipped with help desks, CCTV surveillance system and so on.

Department’s Director General, Danduraj Ghimire inaugurated the centre and applauded the role of tourist police in bringing down the incidences of crime in the Thamel area. He promised to assist officially for good management of CCTV and construction of public toilets in the Thamel area.

Shailesh Thapa Chhetri, Chief Deputy Inspector General of Police, Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari also launched ‘Tourist Police Mobile App’ in the programme ceremony. He said, “The technology-friendly police app was the need of the hour. Stating that the safety of tourist was a must to make the Nepal Visit Year-2020 successful, he also said that the Nepal Police was committed to providing full security to tourists.”

Khyam Raj Tiwari, Kathmandu Metropolis-26 Chair, said, “Telephone, cable and electric wires placed haphazardly in Thamel had spoiled its image. The establishment of the centre would be convenient for tourists arriving in the area.” Rajuman Dangol, Thamel Tourism Development Council Vice Chair, said, “The significance of tourist police had further increased in terms of the security of tourists.”
