JAJARKOT
The work of setting up a musk breeding center at Sakla Ranichaur in Barekot village of Jajarkot to raise musk commercially is in full swing. The work started from the previous fiscal year is now progressing rapidly.

Minister for Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet informed that the government is continuing to set up a musk breeding center at Jajarkot Sakla Ranichaur to provide seeds to those who want to raise musk deer.

Currently, construction work is underway for the breeding center. The National Nature Conservation Fund has taken the work forward with an investment of Rs. 35 million. Musk found in the high mountains of Barekot will be brought to the Ranichaur breeding center for child production.

The locals are happy after the commercial cultivation of musk started in Jajarkot, which is also the home district of the Forest Minister. Various wild animals are found in the high mountains of Barekot. There are four species of musk in Nepal including black, Kashmir, alpine and Himalayan. It is said that some of these castes are found in Jajarkot. In Jajarkot, there is a plan to breed seed animals by keeping Himalayan and Kashmir species in the breeding center.

The government has opened the license for wildlife rearing by publishing it in the Gazette on November 8, 2008. A fee of Rs. 100,000 has been fixed for obtaining a musk rearing license and Minister Basnet informed that a plan has been put forward to produce seed animals in the breeding center as musk is found in the Himalayan region and it is impossible to make it available immediately.

A building is being constructed at 2,100 meters in Ranichaur, Barekot Sakla of Jajarkot. The work is being done in Ranichaur as the natural habitat and temperature balance are good for musk breeding. At least 20 musk deer, both male and female, will be collected from the natural habitat and kept here in the breeding center. Musk breeding and rearing always requires a temperature below 25 degrees Celsius. After cultivating musk, the fragrant musk produced here will be sold (without). The government expects illegal theft to stop once commercial rearing is opened.
