The number of tigers in Shuklaphanta National Park has doubled.
Acting Chief Conservation Officer of the Park Office, Manoj Iyer, reports that there are now 36 spotted tigers, including 16 females, 12 males, and eight whose gender is yet to be confirmed.
The advancement in the habitat, abundance of food species, water management, utter extermination of poaching, and cooperation and coordination of the locals in the buffer zone have all contributed to a rise in the number of endangered species.
He shares, "The country's commitment to double the number of tigers by the year 2022 has been attained and we are proud to be a part of this campaign."
Automatic cameras have been placed in multiple points across the park’s 305 sq km area to count the tigers’ population.
When the count was first started back in 2009, there were just eight tigers in the Shuklaphanta; at present there are 36.
