In a dazzling evening affair held yesterday, Hotel Yak & Yeti proudly introduced the world to the captivating sculpture "Skipper: Rising," crafted by the acclaimed artist Tsherin Sherpa. The grand unveiling, which transpired at the hotel's enchanting Gazebo on November 8th, 2023, from 5 PM to 7 PM, left an indelible mark on all attendees.
Hailing from Kathmandu, Nepal, and born in 1968, Tsherin Sherpa's artistic journey has been a poignant exploration of cultural duality. Having migrated to California in 1998, he ingeniously transformed traditional Tibetan thangka painting into contemporary expressions, seamlessly intertwining the sacred and the secular. "Skipper: Rising" stands as a testament to Sherpa's distinctive artistic vision.
This contemporary character embodies the collective psyche of the Himalayan region, drawing inspiration from local myths and folklore but transmuting it to encapsulate the contemporary perspectives and aspirations of the Himalayan people. A striking portrayal of a god-like figure adorned in metallic gold briefs, emanating an air of both disdain and confusion, "Skipper: Rising" challenges viewers to reflect on the nature of indulgence in the material world, with pink bubblegum blossoming from its scowling mouth.
The illustrious unveiling event was graced by the esteemed presence of Hotel Yak & Yeti's Executive Director, Mr. Arun Saraf, and Mrs. Namita Saraf, who, alongside the gifted artist Tsherin Sherpa, joined hands to reveal this awe-inspiring creation.
