Ambica Shrestha, an influential owner of Heritage Hotel, Dwarika’s in Battisputali, Kathmandu, passed away at the age of 92. Renowned for her dedication to heritage conservation, women's empowerment, and the tourism industry, Shrestha's impact on Nepal will be remembered for generations.

Born in Sikkim, India, Ambica Shrestha moved to Kathmandu in 1995 and quickly became a pivotal figure in the city's tourism sector. Ambica Shrestha's journey began with her husband, Dwarika Das Shrestha, who started preserving carved wooden artifacts to safeguard Nepal's rich cultural heritage. What began as a small guest house in 1964 evolved into the renowned Dwarika’s Hotel, officially registered in 1977. The hotel's construction utilized traditional craftsmanship, employing skilled local artists.

Throughout her life, Shrestha received numerous prestigious awards, including the Decoration of The Cross of the Order of Civil Merit by King Juan Carlos I of Spain.

A champion of women's entrepreneurship, Shrestha was instrumental in enabling women to secure loans and funding from banks, significantly improving their economic opportunities. She served as the founding President of the Federation of Business and Professional Women Nepal and led the Nepal Heritage Society, reflecting her commitment to social and economic development.

Ambica Shrestha's legacy of empowering women and preserving Nepal's cultural heritage will continue to inspire future generations. Her contributions have left a memorable mark on Nepal, and she will be deeply missed.
