Tourists from Chitwan and Nawalpur visit this river to relish its refreshing ambiance, considering its proximity to accessible transportation and market

The Mahesh River, located in Gaindakot Municipality-3 of Nawalparasi (Bardghat-Sustapur), is undergoing significant development to establish itself as a prominent tourist destination. With a mere 20-minute journey from Gaandakot-2 Kaligandaki Chowk on the East-West Highway, Mahesh Khola has witnessed a surge in domestic tourist arrivals in recent times.

Ward President Shivkant Tiwari highlighted that this national pride project, situated in the Kaligandaki Corridor (North-South Highway), attracts visitors seeking refuge from the scorching heat while enjoying the cold spring waters. He stated, "Tourists from Chitwan and Nawalpur visit this river to relish its refreshing ambiance, considering its proximity to accessible transportation and markets."

Tiwari emphasized that the Mahesh River is the closest coldwater destination not only from Gandakot in Nawalpur but also from Bharatpur in Chitwan. He shared, "On an ordinary day, approximately 100 domestic tourists frequent the area, but on Saturdays and public holidays, the number surpasses 500 as people flock to immerse themselves in the river's cool waters and embrace the natural surroundings."

Furthermore, he expressed their commitment to transforming Gaandakot-3 into a sought-after tourist destination. The Mahesh River, which boasts a year-round flow of cold water, has been carefully managed to provide visitors with an opportunity to swim. "While there may not be swimming pools here, the cold river water offers an excellent alternative," he noted.

Tiwari also mentioned the presence of other waterfalls and the Kaligandaki River within Ward No. 3. He attributed the rise in domestic tourists to the construction of the Kaligandaki corridor, which facilitated smoother traffic movement. Plans are in place to promote the Dhodeni area as an attractive option for leisure when there are limited recreational spots near the market area.

"In today's times, finding a beautiful and well-facilitated place near the city market for holiday visits and recreation has become challenging," Tiwari remarked. He also expressed concern that, despite their proximity to the market, the Mahesh River and the surrounding waterfalls have not been adequately promoted as tourist destinations._Rss
