Nepal shutting down 15 International Airlines

A temporary ban on flights to and from Nepal in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus

In the chaotic situation created by the COVID-19, the Nepal government is shutting down the operation of 15 international airlines from March 20 midnight to April 15. On March 14, the Department of Immigration has stopped providing on-arrival visas to the foreigner and Non- Resident Nepal coming to Nepal. As a preventive measure against the coronavirus outbreak, the government has banned the entry of international passengers. 

The high-level committee formed by the government has firmly restricted the passenger from South Asian countries. The countries being Turkey, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan and also passengers making transit in these countries are prohibited from entering the country. This restriction will have a drastic effect on the flight operations of FlyDubai, Etihad Airways, Air Arabia, Salam Air, Qatar Airways and Oman Air. Also, carriers from East-Asia, Cathay Dragon, Malaysian Airlines, Korean Air and Malindo Air and airlines of the Middle East connecting Europe, Turkish Airlines won't be flying to and from Nepal until April 15. Similarly, Nepal Airlines and Himalaya Airlines will be also shutting their operation from today.

However, Thai Airways, Indigo Air, China Southern Airlines, Air India, Biman Bangladesh, Air Vistara, China Eastern Airlines and Chengdu are allowed to fly only on the need basis from March 20. These airlines carry passengers from India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Bhutan, Singapore and China.
