Models strutted and flounced in attire, integrating the ancient and modern at the World Nomads Fashion festival high in the Tian Shan Mountains of Kyrgyzstan, on the edge of one of the deepest lakes on earth.
The third edition of the event brought fashion industry leaders and designers from about 20 different nations to the dazzling Lake Issyk-Kul to admire costumes inspired by the ancient nomadic culture of Kyrgyzstan.
Some of the models wore stiletto heels, which seem to be inappropriate for a bonafide nomad. Still, some of their elaborate headdresses that resembled cattle horns were modern interpretations of traditional nomad attire. Swirling, voluminous skirts were featured in many outfits, either elaborately patterned or in blocks of vivid colour.
Visitors had the opportunity to view a variety of yurts, the skin or felt-framed tents typical of nomads, and the couture, at the show.
