Visiting Shuklaphanta to see twelve horns

Shuklaphanta National Park located in Mahendranagar in remote Nepal is an attractive destination for tourists. One can see herds of hundreds and twelve hornets in the grasslands at once. Visitors travel to this location to witness the twelve-horned herd.

In the year 2024, King Mahendra went hunting and spent one night in a pasture where a herd of twelve horns could be observed. Shuklaphanta is home to what is thought to be the world's largest grassland. Elephant herds can be seen grazing in the grasslands, and tourists have been drawn in by the sight of peacocks dancing there. Tiger sightings are most common in the Chaudhar River, Barkaila, and Ghaasephant, which flows east of Shuklaphant.

Four wooden scaffoldings have been built for tourists. Arrangements have been made for tourists to have a view of Shuklaphanta from the scaffolding. Crocodiles and birds can be seen in abundance in Rani Lake and other small lakes within Shuklaphanta.

There is also the option of an elephant-powered jungle safari, depending on the visitor's schedule. The number of tourists visiting Shuklaphanta has also started to rise recently. 266 international visitors came to the National Park in 2075, according to its data. There are now more visitors than there were in 2078. While 1,200 SAARC nationals have visited Shuklaphanta, the park has had 1,651 overseas visitors.

An entrance fee of Rs 700 has been charged for the citizens of Sark Muluk to visit Shuklaphanta Park, while an entrance fee of Rs 1,550 for foreigners and Rs 100 for Nepalese has been charged. 

According to the census of 2013, Shuklaphanta Park is famous not only for wildlife but also for rare plants. There are 12 species of reptiles in the park. According to the park office, there are 20 species of amphibians, 24 species of fish, 35 species of butterflies, 80-90 nilgai and 424 species of birds.There are more than 53 species of mammals in the wild.There are more than 424 migratory and migratory birds.

Mahendranagar headquarter is reached after about 16 hours of journey by Shuklaphanta road transport which is at a distance of 697 km from Kathmandu to Mahendranagar. Shuklaphanta National Park is at a distance of seven km from Mahendranagar headquarters. Shuklaphanta can be reached by reaching Dhangadhi Airport in about an hour's flight from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi.

 “Shuklaphanta is a famous place for elephants, tigers, rhinos and birds. The various animals seen in the grasslands here are the choice of tourists.” Said Local tourism businessman Parmanand Bhandari.

 “Shuklaphanta is a mine of potential for tourism, it has not been published, different species of endangered birds and tigers and rhinoceros can also be seen here.” He added. 

 "Tourists only travel to Shuklaphanta to witness the elephant herd. Visitors are drawn to the herd of twelve horns that may be seen in the meadows of Shuklaphanta.Only through widespread national and worldwide recognition of Shuklaphanta's beauty will this area's tourism industry prosper. In order to promote Bahrasinga, the Bhimdatta municipality here also designated it as the city of Bahrasinga.” said Janga Bahadur Malla, the departing president of the Kanchanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 

“Everyone should take part in promoting tourism because it is the primary driver of wealth. Shuklaphanta's peak travel period runs from February through August.Shuklafanta's vibrant springtime blooms give visitors a heavenly sense of paradise.” Said Jagdish Prasad Bhatt, President of Kanchanpur Hoteliers Association

“Tourism is the main basis of prosperity and everyone should be involved in its promotion. The main season to visit Shuklaphanta is from February to August. In the spring season, the colourful flowers that bloom in Shuklaphanta give the visitor a sense of heaven.” He added.

“Shuklaphant is an attractive destination for tourists. For the convenience of tourists, the park office is doing programs like road maintenance, scaffolding construction and cleaning. I am collaborating with various organisations for the promotion of Shuklaphanta. The Ranatharu community, which is located next to Shuklaphanta, has also started a homestay with facilities. Rana Tharu in traditional dress welcomes visitors to the homestay with dance and food. Apart from this, more than a dozen hotels with facilities are operating in Mahendranagar headquarters.” Said Kishore Kumar Mehta, head of Shuklaphanta National Park Office ._Rss
