Ghorepani is a beautiful village in Myagdi located 17 kms away from the district capital of Beni. The village is nestled at an altitude of 2874m above sea level. The place is famously known as the rest stop for the popular Poon Hill Trek and is in itself one a popular hill station in Nepal.
The name of the place was given by ancient traders in the old days when they stopped here to feeding their ghoras (horses) and allow them to drink pani (water). It was used as a rest stop in the old days as well as today by trekkers.
Nature
Surrounded by beautiful forests, hills and mountains, Ghorepani is home to a large number of indigenous species of plants, trees and flowers as well as beautiful birds and animals. It is a perfect rest stop from trekking and offers a refreshing change as a place to relax. The rhododendron forest between Ghandruk and Ghorepani is regarded as one of the largest rhododendron forest in the world.
You can spend hours enjoying panoramic views of the majestic Himalayan peaks like Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Machhapucchre and Annapurna from here.
It is an important stop or point for most of the famous treks in this region such as the Poon Hill Trek, The Annapurna Base Camp Trek and others.
Amazing sunrise and sunset can be enjoyed from above the clouds.
Enjoy warm campfires with trekkers along with traditional dances. The hotels, lodges and tea houses here are renowned for their warm hospitality and amazing food and totally tuned to welcome visitors.
Getting there
Direct flights to Pokhara from Kathmandu are available. After reaching Pokhara take the bus from Nayapol to Kimchi and then one can start the hike to Ghorepani. One can also opt to stay at Ulleri and then resume the journey to reach Ghorepani.
It normally takes two days from Pokhara to reach Ghorepani. The trail follows the Modi River and is an amazing journey with beautiful hidden streams, dense forest and the Himalayas as a backdrop throughout the hike.
