Since the Licchavi era, it has been customary for the Bhattas of Pashupati to invite the major deities of the valley and the locals to attend the Jatra

Vatsaleshwari and Bajreshwari Jatras have been started in the Pashupati area with the wish for peace in the country.

It is said that there is a tradition since the Lichchavi period that on the day of Chaitra Krishna Ashtami, the Bhattas of Pashupati invite the main deities of the valley and the locals to come and watch the Jatra.

Earlier, Deshodhar Puja was performed at Bajreshwari, Vatsaleshwari, Akashbhairav, and nine Shaktipeeths of the Pashupati region. Bajreshwari Jatra was started after the pooja was completed. Vatsaleshwari Jatra is celebrated for three days from today. Vatsaleshwari Jatra concluded with Sindur Jatra on the day of Chaitra Shukla II.

It is believed in the Pashupati area that even children who drink milk come to watch this pilgrimage as the pooja and pilgrimage are performed with the wish for peace in the country. Four types of people are directly involved in national worship and pilgrimage. He said that four surnames namely Upadhyaya, Vaidya, Dangol, and Sangat direct participate.

Vatsaleshwari is worshiped as the sister of Naxal Bhagwati. Based on the legend that Vatsaleshwari, who is worshiped as the wife of Lord Shiva, was taken out of Pashupati. Today, Naxal Bhagwati's Jatra is also taken to Pashupati region. Naxal Bhagwati has a tradition of knocking on the chariot three times on the main door of Pashupati in the evening to attract the attention of Lord Shiva.

It is a tradition that after her sister drew her husband's attention, Mata Vatsaleshwari went to stay with her son Chandravinayak on the night of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. According to this tradition, Vatsaleshwari's chariot is pulled to Chandravinayak, who is also worshiped as Chabahil Ganesha. From there, it is a tradition to travel to different places in the Pashupati area and bring it to Pashupati Amalkot after doing Sindur Jatra, which is a 10-day long festival.

It is believed that if this festival is celebrated every year, the people will not suffer from diseases and will have happiness and peace. With this belief, children also come to the Pashupati area to watch the Jatra. During the Jatra, the chariot of Mata Vatsaleshwari was kept at the Navali Tol of Jayavageswari. Jatra is performed by turning the chariot in Sifalchaur. There is a custom of invoking the goddess by the Kotwala of Pashupati by throwing the rice at the Sifal door. This journey ends on Thursday, 9th of Chaitra.

“The procession started from the Vatsaleshwari temple complex on the way to Aryaghat, and it is a tradition to go around all the villages of Pashupati region,” said Purna Dangol, through the office of Pashupati Development Fund, Amalkot._Rss
