According to a press release Deepak Raj Joshi, the outgoing CEO of Nepal Tourism Board and Coordinator of Tourism Recovery Taskforce - Nepal, has been honored with the International Tourism Hero Award by the World Tourism Network.
The award was given for Joshi's remarkable role in sustainable development and promotion of the tourism sector, continuous activism, positive contribution and activism in the revival of the tourism sector which was weakened due to the COVID epidemic.
The first person from South Asia to receive the award, Joshi is also the first Nepali to be a member of the International Hall of Tourism Heroes. Seychelles Tourism Minister Alain St. Ange, Director of QI Group Vijay Poonsamt, Chairman of the African Tourism Board Kathbert Nkub, Zimbabwe former Tourism Minister Dr. Walter Maxembi, Outgoing Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization Dr. Taleb Rifai, Kenya Tourism Secretary Najib Balla and Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett were among the recipients of the award.
After receiving the award, Joshi thanked the world tourism veterans for providing the award and said that the award has inspired him to be more active in the development and revival of tourism.
