As part of the Badadasai festivities, today marks the worship of Goddess Chandraghanta on the third day of Dashain. This ritual, which includes the worship of the nine divine forms of the goddess, is observed with great devotion alongside the traditional Ghatasthapana ceremony.
Throughout the Dasain celebrations, the temple dedicated to Goddess Chandraghanta has continued to draw devotees, attesting to the enduring popularity of the tradition. Various temples in the Kathmandu Valley, such as Guhrieshwari, Maitidevi, Dakshinkali, Bhadrakali, Naxal Bhagwati, Kalikasthan, Shobha Bhagwati, Talejubhavani, Vijeshwari, and Indrayani, have been bustling with visitors since the early hours.
Outside the valley, devotees are also converging on Shakti peeths, including Dantkali in Dharan, Siddhakali in Bhojpur, Pathibhara in Taplejung, Manakamana in Gorkha, Ambikeshwari in Dang, Ugratara in Dadeldhura, Tripurasundari in Baitadi, and Shaileshwari in Doti. The nine days of Navratri involve the sequential worship of various forms of the goddess, with Chandraghanta Devi being revered on the third day.
This worship is believed to bestow upon the devotees qualities of gentleness, humility, heroism, and fearlessness, as Chandraghanta represents the beautiful incarnation of Parvati. Scriptures describe her as "Chandraghanta" due to the crescent moon ornament adorning her head, resembling a crown. It is mentioned in texts like Srimad Devi Bhagavata that she descended to eradicate inhumane and demonic tendencies, such as anger and violence while protecting the virtuous.
Since the commencement of Navratri, a continuous influx of devotees has been observed at various Shaktipeeths in the Kathmandu Valley. Temples like Naksal Bhagwati, Shobha Bhagwati, Bhadrakali, Maitidevi, Kalikasthan, Sankata, Naradevi, and others throughout the valley have been adorned with vibrant lights to celebrate this auspicious occasion.
