Nepal Tourism Board has appointed Deepak Raj Joshi as its CEO, marking his return to the role he previously held from December 2015 to January 2020. A three-member subcommittee, led by Indu Ghimire, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, shortlisted three candidates from a pool of 14 applicants. Alongside Joshi, Dhananjay Regmi and Gyaneshwar Singh Mahato were also considered for the position. After discussions, the board decided to appoint Joshi as the new CEO in its Thursday meeting.
The position had been vacant since the completion of former CEO Dhananjay Regmi’s tenure on January 28, 2024. To fill the vacancy, the board, under the leadership of then-Tourism Secretary Deepak Kafle, opened applications in April. Candidates were required to have at least 10 years of experience in the tourism sector and hold a postgraduate degree. The board, which operates with 64 staff members, sought a leader to guide its activities and further promote tourism in Nepal. Joshi’s reappointment is expected to bring continuity and experience to the role.
