Located in the Gandaki Pardesh of central Nepal, Putalibazar is the biggest municipality of Syangja district. The municipality is distributed in 146 square kilometers. The district lies in the hilly region at an altitude ranging from about 300 meters along the banks of Kaligandaki river up to a couple of thousands of meters above the sea level. This district is known for the largest hydropower plant of the nation, Kali Gandaki A Hydropower which produces 144MW electricity. Putalibazar, with many VDC, has been the center for the business and official of Syangja. Blessed with diverse natural beauty, Syangja has a huge potential for tourism

According to the 2011 Nepal census, it had a total population of 30,704 people residing in 8,180 individual households. People of many ethnicities live in this district. The major groups are Brahmin, Chetri, Gurung and Magar. Most of the population of Syangja are involved in government service or Army Service i.e Indian, British or Nepalese Army. There is a popular saying that " When you go to Syangja and hit a house randomly with a stone, that house surely belongs to the Section-Officer. "

Getting There

Syangja was connected to Pokhara and Butwal, two of the most prominent cities of Western Nepal, after the construction of the Siddhartha Highway. The highway enters this district in the North from Kubhinde and leaves in the South to Ramdi of Palpa district. Putalibazar is 37km from Pokhara and 127 km from Butwal and 238km from the capital.

Syangja doesn't have an airfield. However, Pokhara Airport is located in close proximity to the city. Regular buses and taxis are available to reach Putalibazar, Syangja from the airport. Yeti Airlines, Shree Airlines have been providing their service.
