Pisang Peak, situated at 6,091m, is the popular climbing peak of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). It is located above the pisang, beautiful village in the northern part of the Manang district, in between Annapurna I and Manaslu. Like other NMA peaks, it is also very popular among the climbers who want to climb easily without having much experience and technical skills. Pisang Peak rises from yak pastures above the village of Pisang in a uniform slope to the final summit pyramid which is an undistinguished snow and ice slope. While reaching the summit, you will also be crossing the highest mountain passess of the world - Thorong La Pass.

Pisang peak, which is popular for being easy climbing, provides its climbers with a very interesting journey. You can explore the two beautiful and untouched valley i.e. Manang and Mustang. You can witness the stunning view of snow-capped mountains from the Thorong La Pass and the top of the peak like Mt. Annapurna and Mt. Manaslu. The walk in the routes of Annapurna trail will give you a chance to encounter different endangered animals, different species of birds and plants etc. You will get to enjoy the scenic Jomsom - Pokhara flight while sightseeing different views on the way. You can explore the diverse culture and the Buddhist religion and tradition in the mountain region. Also, the Pisang Peak Climbing takes you through huge rocks and hanging glaciers which make your tour an adventurous and thrilling climb.

HISTORICAL ACHIEVEMENT

It was first climbed in 1955 by a group of a German team and since then, the Pisang Peak climbing has been going crazy and popular among national and international people.

GETTING THERE

Your trip towards Pisang peak climbing starts right from Kathmandu with a drive to Besishahar. After reaching Besishahar, your next destination is Dharapani and trekking in Annapurna Circuit Trail. By trekking, you reach Pisang within 3 days and Base Camp is set up at Kharka of 5,400 m climbing to a shoulder on the South-West ridge. After a successful summit, the descent is made through the same route, trekking to Manang, Thorong La pass till Muktinath and then return back to Pokhara via flight from Jomsom.

BEST SEASON

Visiting Pisang Peak is suitable at any time of the year. There are four seasons: Spring, Autumn, Monsoon, and Winter. Out of the seasons, trekkers prefer spring and autumn as the favorable time to tour Pisang Peak.

TIME DURATION

In total, the Pisang Peak expedition takes a total time of 16 to 21 days. However, It may vary because of the weather conditions. The time also varies and depends on peak location and peak elevation.

OVERALL COST

The total cost for climbing Pisang Peak starts from about US $ 2,200. However, you know that the climbing cost depends on the climbing package you choose based on the number of days on your Pisang Peak Climbing Itinerary and the routes you are taking. Also, the cost will differ if you are not taking your chosen company package for the climb.

REQUIREMENTS

To summit this peak you need to have a high level of physical fitness and moderate level of technical climbing. 

Experienced- Climbers should have successfully completed a minimum of 3 Day Mount Rainier or Mount Baker Climb (or have similar experience). 

Mental Ability- Climbers must be mentally prepared to deal with strenuous situations at high altitudes.The requirements are also based on your desire to have similarly skilled team members.

Travel Documents: PP size photos, valid passport, insurance paper, family members contact address etc.

Mountaineering equipments- Crampons, Ice axe, Helmet, Harness, Lock and unlock Carabineers, Shovel, Climbing pack, Rope, Ski poles, Jummer, Tapes, Prusik Loops, Rappel device, Hand Warmer etc.

Clothing and Wears- Snow google, Wool cap, Thermal Underwear, Trekking shoes with spare laces, Mountaineering Boots, Gore-Tex pants, Long shorts, Insulated Parka, Jumper, Waterproof Jackets, Down Jacket, Fleece Vest,Neck Gaiter, Gloves etc.

Gadgets- Map, Compass, Camera, GPS, Two way radios, Binoculars, Head Lamp, Flashlight etc.

Other equipment: Sleeping bags, Bag packs, Sun stuff, Medical, Eating and Drinking stuffs, Toiletries, Fleece hats and so on.

PERMIT AND REGULATIONS

For climbing island peak, you need to have following permits;

TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System)- NRS 1000 (USD 9) per person if they have come in a group and NRS 2000 (USD 18) per person if they have come individually.

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit- For entering the Annapurna Conservation Area, you need to obtain an entry permit. This permit costs about 30 USD + government tax.

Pisang Peak Climbing Permit- USD 250 during spring, USD 125 during autumn and USD 70 during winter/summer.

Permit should be taken from Nepal Mountaineering Association since height above 5800m and below 6584m peaks permit are given by them. This permit will be taken by your trekking company and will charge a specific amount of money. Without a valid permit you are not allowed to climb Pisang Peak. Also, one needs to pay fees for Liaison Officer, his/her insurance, food allowance, Insurance of whole Nepali staff including porters in order to obtain permit and Garbage Deposit at ministry.

RESTRICTIONS

In Nepal, climbing Psang peak imposed certain kind of age, health restrictions and they are;

Age- Minimum 18 and no restriction has been set in upper age till now

Health- Should have a strong body, risk taking mindset and health should be free from any kind of sudden attack diseases.

NOTE: Till now in Nepal, permits to climb mountains in Nepal are issued by Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) to 33 peaks and rest of others permits are issued by the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
