Situated in the upper belt of Sindhupalchok district, Helambu is a highland town that is 80 kilometers away from Kathmandu. It is the home of the Hyolmo people an ethnic tribe of Nepal.

The region begins at the Lauribina La pass and descends to the Melamchi valley. It is well known as a pilgrimage site for Buddhist and also popular for apples that are grown here. Helambu offers visitors a lot of interesting things to do including beautiful hikes and treks in areas that are yet to be discovered by mass tourism.

Nature

Helambu is surrounded by nature and is blessed with endangered and wild flora and fauna. The magnificent Himalayan views from Chisopani and Tharepati, dense and thriving forest of Shivapuri National Park and Langtang National Park are some of the major natural wonders of the place.

Getting there

Although Helambu is not very near to Kathmandu, the place has no access to any airfield. The only way to travel there is via the Araniko Highway.

Buses, private jeep, vans are available from the city. For trekkers there are three major trekking routes to Helambu. The first via Melamchi Bazar-Timbu, the second via Sundarijal-Kutumsang and the third via Dhunche-Gosaikunda.
