Anjila Liu is the Assistant Sales and Marketing Manager at Hotel Kantipur Village, Thamel, and Temple Himalaya Hotel & Spa, Pokhara — two distinct properties that together represent Nepal's rich hospitality offering, from the cultural heartbeat of Kathmandu to the serene lakeside charm of Pokhara. With a professional outlook rooted in relationship-building and a genuine passion for creating memorable guest experiences, Anjila brings both warmth and strategic thinking to her role. More than a hospitality professional, she sees herself as an advocate for Nepal as a destination, committed to showcasing the country's unique cultural depth, natural grandeur, and the human stories that make it unlike anywhere else in the world. In this conversation, she shares her journey in the industry, the realities of sales and marketing across two cities, and what drives her dedication to putting Nepal on the map for travellers near and far.

What inspired you to pursue a hospitality career? Who has been your biggest inspiration?

I was drawn to hospitality because it allows me to connect with people from different backgrounds and create positive experiences. I am grateful to be part of an industry that not only promotes tourism but also showcases Nepal’s rich culture and warm hospitality to the world. My biggest inspiration comes from the industry leaders and mentors who have shown me the value of dedication, professionalism, and continuous growth.

What does your role as an Assistant Sales and Marketing Manager entail on a day-to-day basis?

My role involves building client relationships, promoting the hotel, coordinating marketing activities, and identifying opportunities to grow business while ensuring guest satisfaction. A significant part of my role is understanding market trends and adapting our strategies to meet evolving customer expectations.

How do you handle guest expectations in an increasingly competitive market?

I believe in listening to guests, understanding their needs, and delivering personalized service. Consistency, attention to detail, and continuous improvement are key to exceeding expectations.

What challenges did you face at the beginning of your career?

One of my biggest challenges was gaining confidence and adapting to the fast-paced nature of the industry. However, these challenges became valuable learning experiences that helped me build resilience, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the industry.

If you could have dinner with any business leader, who would it be and why?

I would choose to have dinner with Hon.MP Vidushi Rana. I admire her remarkable journey as a business leader and her role in transforming and modernizing one of Nepal’s most recognized brands. Her innovative approach to marketing, strategic thinking, and commitment to empowering women in business are truly inspiring. As someone working in sales and marketing within the hospitality industry, I would love to learn from her experiences in brand building, leadership, and adapting businesses to changing consumer trends.

What advice would you give to young women aspiring to enter the marketing field?

Marketing is a dynamic field that constantly evolves, so my advice would be to stay curious, embrace continuous learning, and believe in your abilities. Don’t be afraid to share your ideas, take on new challenges, and step outside your comfort zone. Build strong professional relationships, seek mentorship, and remember that confidence comes through experience. Most importantly, remain authentic—your unique perspective is one of your greatest strengths.
