Among the most picturesque valleys in Nepal, Gokyo is a small valley that lies in Solukhumbu district. Nestled at an altitude of 4,750 meters, the valley is known to be the highest settlement in the world. The valley is situated at the foot of Gokyo Ri and on the eastern shore of the third Gokyo lake, Dudh Pokhari.

The valley will not disappoint visitors who are looking for a unique experience with nature and unforgettable spectacular views.The serene valley boasts extensive pastures for yaks to graze during summer and the pristine turquoises lakes are simply breathtaking.

The valley is also home to Gokyo Lakes, oligotrophic lakesthat are a Ramsar site, which hold the title of being among the highest freshwater lakes in the world. The lake is deemed as a holy site by Hindus and Buddhists.

Getting there

The nearest airport to Gokyo is Lukla Airport which is located in Namche Bazar and flights are available from Kathmandu. Tara Airlines and others offer flights to Lukla. The flight is short and can take about 25-30 minutes, overseeing the beautiful and majestic mountain range.

Upon reaching the Namche Bazar one take the less crowded route towards Dole. One can trek to the valley or use local available transportation. The route will take one to the various settlements like Thame, Monjo and Machhermo and finally to Gokyo which will welcome you with its shimmering lakes.
