Located among the beautiful hills of Myagdi District in Gandaki Province, Devisthan is a peaceful rural community where nature, agriculture and traditional village life remain closely connected. Today, Devisthan forms Ward No. 5 of Malika Rural Municipality, although it was previously a separate Village Development Committee (VDC). Situated at an elevation of approximately 1,873 metres above sea level, the area is surrounded by forests, agricultural land and scenic hill landscapes.
Devisthan is not a densely populated town but a collection of settlements spread across the hills. Communities such as Panthok, Jugja and Rajdang are part of the wider Devisthan area. Houses and farms are scattered across the slopes, giving the area the distinctive character of a traditional Nepali hill community. Terraced fields, green forests and surrounding ridges create a landscape that changes beautifully with the seasons.
One of Devisthan's greatest attractions is its natural environment. Nearby geographical features include Takam Danda, Bhongsa Danda, Jugja Pahad and Malika hill. Among them, Malika Dhuri is particularly known for its scenic views. The area's elevation also provides a cooler environment than Nepal's lowland Terai, adding to the peaceful atmosphere of the surrounding hills and forests.
Agriculture continues to play an important role in everyday life. Local people traditionally grow crops such as maize, millet, wheat, barley and buckwheat. Livestock farming and small-scale local activities also support rural livelihoods. Like many hill communities in Nepal, however, Devisthan has experienced migration, with residents moving to cities such as Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan or travelling abroad in search of employment and better opportunities.
Despite its rural character, Devisthan has essential community services. Local schools, including Shree Bhim Secondary School, provide education to children from surrounding settlements. Basic healthcare is available through the Devisthan Health Post and Panthok Community Health Unit. Infrastructure is also gradually improving. In August 2026, national-grid electricity infrastructure was expanded into Panthok and Jugja, improving access to reliable electricity.
For travellers interested in experiencing rural Nepal beyond the usual tourist destinations, Devisthan offers terraced farmland, forested hills, scattered villages and traditional community life. Visitors can explore the surrounding settlements, enjoy the scenery around Malika Dhuri and observe local agricultural practices. However, tourism facilities remain limited, so transport and basic needs should be planned in advance.
Darbang is the main nearby commercial and administrative centre, while Beni is the district headquarters, and road conditions may be affected by mountainous terrain and monsoon weather. Devisthan is therefore best suited to travellers who value nature, local culture and authentic village experiences, offering a meaningful glimpse into the everyday life and landscape of rural Myagdi.
