The idea of a Farmer’s market stems from the demand for fresh produce; your local vendor picks out vegetables just a day before and brings it to sell, something that doesn’t happen at local supermarkets or department stores. Farmer’s markets have some of the best organic products and they also promote a sense of community. Nepal is yet to incorporate the culture of farmers markets but here are some markets in the valley that you should check out:
1. The Yellow House, Sanepa
Held every Sunday, the Farmer’s Market at The Yellow House, Sanepa offers fresh, organic and local produce, from delectable European Cheese to classic home-made chocolates. With over 20 vendors coming out each week, the market runs from 9 am to 12 pm and are frequented by many for breakfast at their in-house restaurant. Freshly baked goods accompanied by local organic tea will tempt others for a small bite. For the perfect brunch, the Yellow House features up and coming artists to play live music for the crowd.

2. Le Sherpa Restaurant, Lazimpat
One of the first of its kind, the Farmer’s Market at Le Sherpa is arguably the most popular farmers market around Kathmandu. Known especially for its special brunch at the restaurant, the market is home to over 40 vendors selling fresh, local produce including artisanal bread and pastries, homemade jams and more. Enjoy the best of organic groceries at the Ramalaya Complex twice a week on Saturday mornings from 8 am to 12:30 pm, and on Wednesday evenings from 3 pm to 7 pm.

3. 1905 Restaurant, Thamel
Every Saturday, 1905, a restaurant in Naxal, hosts one the oldest farmers market around with homemade pickles, fresh bread, chocolate covered dried pears, spit-roasted chickens, egg & dairy free cookies and so much more. The restaurant offers great food for those looking for a small break from the crowded market and as of now, the restaurant has 4 rooms to offer as well. The market runs from 9 am to 12 pm.

4. Park Village Resort, Budhanilkantha
Each Sunday, Park Village Resort in the north of Kathmandu city, holds an organic farmers market where local vendors and producers of fresh produce like fruits, vegetables, honey, tea, coffee, juice and more. The Haat Bazaar organic market is accompanied by a full brunch at the in-house restaurant. From 7:30 am to 1 pm, the market is available to locals, in-house guests and visitors.

5. Taragaon Museum Premises, Boudha
The Taragaon Organic agro market in Boudha, Tusal is the only certified farmer's market by Participatory Guarantee System Kathmandu in coordination with District Agriculture Development Office(DADO). Only fresh, organic produce that has been fully approved is available for sale at the market. If local is the way to go, then this farmer's market is the perfect representation. The market goes on from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm.
