The Barah dance is being staged tonight under the Kattik dance, which is celebrated every year on Kartik Shuklapaksh Dwadashi. The Kartik dance, which was performed for 12 days last year, is being performed for only two days this year due to the global corona epidemic. Kiran Chitrakar, the chairperson of the Kartik Dance Conservation Committee, said that the Hiranyaksha monster will be killed according to the story based on Bishnu Purana by organizing Barah Natya Mahotsav tonight while the epidemic is still raging in the country. He said, "This year, we are preparing to stage a dance from 9 pm to 11.30 pm just to maintain the tradition." The painter informed that the Lalitpur Municipal Corporation has provided Rs. 200,000 and Ward No. 16 has helped to make the crown of Barah to continue the Kartik dance like other years.

Even last year, Ward No. 16 had made the committee the crown of Nrusinha. Necessary items including a stage have been prepared for staging dance at night in 'Kartik Dabli' near Patan Krishna Temple. Pratapdhar Sharma, the vice-chairman of the committee, said that only necessary artists would be present by maintaining social distance due to Kovid-19. He said, "No year in history has been heard since the beginning of Kartik dance in the country."

Vijendra Lal Shrestha, 76, a resident of Patan, suggested that local volunteers should be mobilized to dance in the presence of a small audience even though he could not attend tonight due to his advanced age. In 1697 BS, King Siddhinar Singh Malla of Patan performed the dance for the welfare of the country and the people. It is said to be the longest dance in the world.

The Kartik Natya Mahotsav is providing religious, moral and social knowledge to the people by uniting them. According to sources, the Kattik dance has been conducted for five days for the first time and since the time of Siddhinar Singh Malla's son Raja Srinivasa, 'Bath: Pyakhan' i.e. 'Lok Natak', 'Sudama Pyakhan' and 'Surdas Pyakhan' have been added for 15 days.

Similarly, Raja Yoganrendra, the son of Srinivasa, has added 'Ushaharan' and 'Madhavanal' after two leelas and operated them for 27 days throughout the month of November. The committee has stated that in order to properly protect and promote the historical and cultural heritage of the country, two days have been added for 10 days in 2070 BS and then another two days have been added for 12 days. In the time of Siddhinar Singh's grandson Yogan Rendra, the dance was performed throughout the month of Kattik.

Tonight's Kartik dance will not involve people under the age of 18 and over the age of 60. Secretary of the committee Vijay Tandukar said that the decision was taken as the risk of the corona is higher in people of that age group.
