62-year-old Narendra Gautam of Damak-3 Dhukurpani had no idea three years ago that a huge building like a skyscraper would be erected in front of his house.
The residents of Dhukurpani, like him, did not believe it at first when they heard the rumor that a view tower would be built with the vision of the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. "Looking at the 18-storey tower, people from outside come every day to inquire what is going on," says Gautam, "When I remember three years ago, this place was not even suitable for rice cultivation. Now, it has become like a big city."
As a project of Nepal's national pride, the construction of Damak View Tower was started on June 27, 2076 in Dhukurpani village, three kilometers away from Damak Bazaar. With an agreement to complete the work within 30 months, the Chinese company CGIEC and Ashish Om Sairam JV took the construction contract in partnership. According to the Intensive Urban Development and Building Construction Project, the construction period has been delayed by one and a half years due to the two waves of the Covid-19 pandemic, the construction breaks and lack of budget.
Bhupendra Yadav, the engineer of Chandragarhi Office, said that the construction of the view tower will be completed by the end of June 2080. According to him, 75 percent of the project is in physical progress and 68 percent of the total cost has already been spent. Local Umanath Dhakal says that the construction of Damak View Tower has changed the name of the village. He is of the opinion that Damak View Tower, a symbol of national pride, should be taken as a symbol of prosperity.
"Smart City" is being built nearby
The Damak Municipality has started the integrated land management process under the plan to make a 'Smart City' on the 59 acres of land attached to the east side along with the Damak View Tower. Named 'New Damak', the scheme is a new and systematic 'Smart City' project. Ward President Nabin Baral informed that Damak Municipality has allocated Rs 1 crore budget for this purpose.
This project will be a partnership between the municipality and local residents. Ward President Nabin Baral said that the land will be provided by the local residents and the municipality will help in the construction of roads, electricity, water supply, sewerage, gardens, schools, health posts and other structures in an orderly manner.
A 15-member Damak View Tower Land Consolidation and Management Support Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Shantiram Gautam from among the local landowners for the construction of the project. Chairman Gautam said that local residents have given 12 acres of land for the project and all 59 acres of land will be integrated and modern urban infrastructure will be built. A separate monitoring committee has also been formed under the coordination of the head of the municipality, including the heads of offices such as land management and local administration._RSS
