While most travellers flock to popular trekking routes, I was on a quest for an off-the-beaten-path experience. That's when I discovered the Astam Village trek tour, promising a delightful blend of mountain exploration and immersion into traditional Nepali village life. Join me on this remarkable journey as we uncover the hidden gems near Pokhara, Nepal.
Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara
Embarking on an early morning drive from Kathmandu, I embarked on a scenic journey to Pokhara. The six-hour drive treated me to breathtaking views of the countryside, as the grandeur of Fishtail Peak and the Annapurna Range dominated the horizon. In Pokhara, a city known for its tranquil lakes, I settled into my hotel and explored the charming lakeside area.
Day 2: Trek from Hemja to Astam Village
After a hearty breakfast, I embarked on the trekking portion of the journey. A short drive brought me to Hemja, where my hike to Astam Village began. Following a leisurely path through quaint villages and lush forests, I immersed myself in the beauty of nature. Astam Village, an eco-village nestled at an altitude of 1568 meters, welcomed me with open arms. The traditional houses made of split stone and slate roofs exuded a rustic charm, while the surrounding landscapes provided an ideal setting for witnessing the panoramic views of the Annapurna Range.
Days 3-4: Exploring Astam Village and Surroundings
Astam Village offered a glimpse into the simple and serene Nepali village lifestyle. I wandered through the narrow pathways, observing locals going about their daily routines and marveling at their use of alternative technologies for sustainability. The village served as a base for my explorations, and I embarked on hikes to nearby villages such as Hyangja Kot, Dhampus, and Australian Camp. Each destination gifted me with awe-inspiring mountain vistas and an opportunity to connect with the local culture.
Day 5: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu
As my memorable journey neared its end, I bid farewell to Pokhara and boarded a comfortable tourist bus for the return journey to Kathmandu. The scenic drive allowed me to reflect on the incredible experiences and beautiful memories I had accumulated during the trek. Upon reaching Kathmandu, I checked into a hotel and had free time to explore the vibrant Thamel Market, picking up souvenirs and immersing myself in the local atmosphere.
