Newly elected Member of The House of Representatives from Kailali constituency-3, Gangaram Chaudhary, inaugurated the Ghorighora Lavangi Puja and Cultural Festival on Saturday. Newly elected member of Kailali-3 State Assembly (2) Khushiram Dagaura, Mayor Khadak Bahadur Rawat, Deputy Mayor Gulia Kumari Chaudhary, people's representatives, leaders of political parties and other dignitaries were present on the occasion. According to the organizers, the festival will be held from Mangsir 10 to 18.
The festival has been started with the objective of promoting tourism of the lake, tharu tradition, art, culture promotion, cultural preservation and support in religious areas. On the occasion, various performances were performed at The Lavangi Puja and Ghorighora Festival, especially the Badka dance by the old gurus of the Tharu community, the Sakhiya dance by the women collectively, the lathi dance, the Jhumra dance, the Din Nachuwa dance, dhamar, mangar, as well as to promote the preservation of the local talents of the Tharu community as well as to recognize the identity of their community at the national and international level.
The festival will feature an exhibition of commercial materials of Tharu culture, tableau exhibition of local villages, performances of national and local artists, lifestyle costumes of Tharu tribe and indigenous communities as well as presentation of various Tharu dances, according to the organizing organization Ghodaghodi and Culture Conservation Society.
The Tharu community is said to have been performing Lavangi Puja at Ghodaghodi since time immemorial. Lavangi Puja is celebrated here with the belief that the grain should be offered to the deity after bringing the grain home.
For the past decade, lavangi puja has been celebrated by organizing festivals here. On the last day of The Lavangi Puja, the practice of eating new grains only after offering sacrifices in the Ghodaghodi temple has been going on in the Tharu community so far. The Tharu community calls ghodaghodi temple as ghorighora (ghodaghodi) temple. Devotees from Kailali, Kanchanpur and Dang come here._Rss
