Kathmandu, May 2025 – This May, prepare to be transported to the heart of Bengal without ever leaving the city. As started from 21st till 31st, The Garden Terrace at The Soaltee Kathmandu comes alive with the sights, sounds and soul-stirring flavors of Bengal during a Bengali Food Festival unlike any other.

Crafted under the expertise of a Bengali chef, this immersive dining experience brings together the richness of Bengal’s culinary heritage with warm hospitality and vibrant cultural aesthetics. The buffet dinner, priced at NPR 3600 net per person, runs every evening from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM, promising a flavorful escape that lingers well beyond the last bite.

As guests arrive, they are welcomed with traditional Bengali beverages like Doi Ghol and Beler Shorbot, instantly setting the tone for an authentic evening. But what truly elevates this festival beyond food is its atmosphere. The beautifully adorned dining space, embellished with banana leaves and traditional Bengali décor, offers a setting so immersive one feels the charm and elegance of Bengal.

The hospitality further deepens the cultural immersion. Waiters and waitresses dressed in traditional Bengali attire—white dhotis and red-bordered sarees—move gracefully through the space, serving guests with a warm smile and genuine pride. Coupled with the melodic strains of Bengali music flowing gently in the background, the ambiance is serene, nostalgic, and unforgettable.

The culinary journey begins with an array of classic Bengali starters. Pani Puri, Macher Chop, Chicken Cutlet, Aloo Chop, and Posto Vada are paired with mint chutney, alongside beloved street-style rolls: Paneer, Chicken, and Egg. Each bite delivers a burst of spices, evoking the busy food lanes of North Kolkata.

Moving on to the mains, the menu showcases Bengal’s culinary depth with dishes like Kolkata Sabji Biryani and Kolkata Chicken Biryani. Traditional favorites such as Sukha Goshit, Machher Jhol, Aloo Kathal and Dharosh Kasundi highlight the diversity of meat and vegetable preparations in Bengali cuisine. Vegetarian diners are equally catered to with comforting plates of Khichuri, Paneer Aloo ka Jhol, Chholar Dal, and Pasta with a unique fusion twist.

Complement your meal with flavorful sides like Lemon Coriander Fried Rice, Fresh Garden Vegetables, Seasonal Vegetables in Schezwan Sauce, and Baked Vegetables. For those who love a warm start, the soup offerings of Lala Chana ka Jhol and Chicken Sweetcorn Soup add a wholesome touch to your plate.

But no Bengali feast is complete without its legendary sweets—and here, the festival shines. Traditional treats like Misti Doi, Rosogolla, Bhapa Sandesh, Kacha Golla, Sandesh, Chumchum, and Mihi Dana sit beside fusion desserts such as Cheesecake, Tarts, and Mango Baked Yogurt, creating a dessert spread that is both indulgent and irresistible.

This ten-day festival is more than just a dinner—it’s a celebration of heritage, flavor, and passion. Whether you're a connoisseur of Indian cuisine or new to Bengali fare, this is an unmissable opportunity to taste Bengal’s best without leaving Kathmandu.
