To celebrate the great Muslim festival, an open event Namaste Eid initiated by Open Space Network in collaboration with Ghaito was hosted at Annapurna Hotel on 28 June, 2017. Namaste Eid which was held for the very first time, celebrated the togetherness and the richness of Islamic culture in a country where all cultures are respected equally. The festival attempted to foster unity among various religions in Nepal and gave everyone a chance to learn about Muslim culture.
Both Muslims and Non-Muslims from the capital attended the event to sample music and food from the Halal Restaurants in town, alongside a variety of arranged open markets and the first ever exclusive fashion show, "The Hijab, Modestly Modern" by Nuzhat Qazi with the models from House of Fashion Nepal.
The Eid Festival was open to all visitors of any backgrounds and faiths, with an array of entertainment and attractions for the whole family to enjoy, including, arts and crafts, exhibitions, and more. The focus of this year’s Eid Festival was to eliminate the conception regarding the minor community of Muslims in Nepal. The event also provided a platform for entrepreneurs with a ‘bazaar’ style market area, with stalls from grassroots organisations.
The event had stalls for the outlets initiated by young Muslim faces like Today’s Telegram, House of Fashion, Fiza Collections where they were selling Nepali products and traditional Muslim attire. Shah Mahal Tabela, Hyderabad House and Ghar e’ Kabab also had stalls that served halal food and delicious biryanis. Cartma online store who are dedicated towards promoting the unique and diverse products from Nepal also showcased some of their latest designs. The event also had musical and dance performances along with a Fashion Show that gave a positive outlook on the modest collections by Nuzhat Qazi which reflected the community's culture.
There was a huge mix of traditional and contemporary performances throughout the day through soulful Sufi Music coming from Ankit Babu Adhikari and Band and Ankit Shrestha and Band. The event was organised to show how the Islamic culture binds the community.
