One of the most important festivals of the residents of Bhaktapur is Bisket Jatra. It is scheduled to commence from 10th of April this year.

Every New Year, the famous Bisket Jatra, celebrated by Bhaktapur residents for nine days and eight nights according to traditional tantric rituals, will start from April 10th this year.

This Jatra begins four days before the new year by pulling the chariot of Bhairav, mainly in the middle of the Nepali Calendar month Chaitra. The lingo with the rainbow flag is raised and on 1st Baisakh, the lingo jatra is celebrated all day in Lysingkhel and the lingo is thrown down in the evening. The construction of the chariots of Bhairava and Bhadrakali, which are essential for the Jatra, has started.

Khima Wali, head of Guthi Sansthan Bhaktapur informed that since a month ago, in the premises of the five-storey temple located in Toumadhi, the work of preparing different sizes of wood for making chariots, making wheels, repairing damaged items and making shoes has been going on.

According to him, a new wheel has been built by buying new wood and other wheels have been repaired, and from the 16th Chaitra, the wheels of Bhairav's chariot and various parts will be installed and the construction of the pagoda-style three-storied chariot will be painted and completed.

A large amount of wood came from the donor for the construction of the chariot and the Guthi Sansthan brought the wood needed for the construction and repair of the chariot on time. He said, "We have instructed the contractor to bring a 90 cubit long tight very strong rope to pull the chariot. The rope has been tested by the Jatra Management Committee team. A lingo, 55 cubits long, with a broad bottom like a hoe is needed for the festival. Last year there were two lingos. So, this year no new lingo was brought._RSS
