The 25th Earthquake Safety Day of this year is going to be celebrated in Kamal Pokhari. The decision was taken by the management sub-committee during the discussion held today in Kathmandu Metropolitan City to celebrate Earthquake Safety Day on Magh 2.
In the meeting, the chief administrative officer Basant Adhikari reminded that people are forgetting the earthquake and are neglecting to follow the building code.
The metropolis has informed that a public notice has been issued in the name of those concerned to manage the unauthorized structure by themselves and that the violators will be prosecuted.
On the 18th of Poush, a meeting held under the coordination of the Earthquake Safety Day Main Ceremony Committee, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane formed a management sub-committee under the coordination of KAMPA.
Similarly, it was decided to form a publicity sub-committee under the coordination of the Urban Development and Building Construction Department. The meeting has decided the slogan for this year as 'earthquake safe infrastructure, safe life base'.
Remembering the damage caused by the devastating earthquake on January 2, 1990, this day is celebrated to make sure that future generations do not suffer this kind of damage.
Since 2055, Earthquake Safety Day has been celebrated every year on Magh 2. The Ministry of Science and Technology organized a program linking earthquakes with science until 2057. Since the year 2058, the day has been celebrated by forming the main ceremony committee under the coordination of the Home Minister.
