Target package preparation for tourism promotion: Minister Bhattarai

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai has urged the tourism entrepreneurs to prepare a package for the promotion of domestic tourism.

In an interaction with tourism entrepreneurs organized by the Nepal Tourism Board today, he said that the external tourism traffic will be reduced for some time to come due to COVID-19 and urged to formulate an indigenous tourism package to promote domestic tourism. The businessmen had demanded to open tourist entry permits and conduct tourism activities. After listening to the views of businessmen, Minister Bhattarai said that there is no excitement that many tourists will come even if the entry permit is opened now and urged to sell tourist packages to locals as well as foreigners.
     
He said that even though the airport was closed in other countries after Covid, Nepal's airport was not closed for a single day.
     
Minister Bhattarai said that 4,804 flights have been flown out of Kathmandu and 4,055 have entered Kathmandu so far since the start of regular domestic flights on September 20. He said that 175,000 people have left Kathmandu and 169,000 have entered Kathmandu through these flights.
     
Minister Bhattarai said that 40 percent of flights are being operated in Nepal even though 32 percent of flights are being operated in the world. Stating that Nepal is a country that adopts flexibility in international flights in South Asia, he mentioned that India has not been able to do the same. Stating that the health protocol used at Nepal's airports is the best in the world, Minister Bhattarai said that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has awarded 25,000 dollars to Nepal.
     
Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Yadav Koirala, urged the entrepreneurs to come up with an action plan for opening up tourism and said that a conclusion would be reached through a group discussion accordingly.
The program was attended by the heads and representatives of leading organizations in the tourism sector including Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAN), Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter.
