Tourist arrivals have increased in the Rautapokhari area of the district, which has been without tourists for almost eight months due to Covid-19. According to Raj Bahadur Magar, a member of Rauta Homestay and a hotelier, the number of tourists visiting Rauta has increased to 200 daily. According to hotel operator Khadga Kumar Rai, the number of daily tourists is increasing and 50 percent of the daily visitors stay in Rauta. Homestay and hotel in Rauta, which was closed for seven to eight months, is now functioning well with the presence of tourists, says hotel manager Anuradha Magar.
Regarding the increase in the number of tourists, Rautamai village chairman Gajendra Khadka said, "The impact of Covid infection has not been felt in the area so far. If the lockdown is opened, the number of tourists is increasing after the festival." Khadka said that the Rauta area is becoming an important religious and beautiful tourist destination of the district for tourists as arrangements are being made for everything from homestay, hotel to road and electricity.
According to Pandav Rai, Ward Chairman of Rautamai Gaonpalika-4, tourists come to see the temples of Rautapokhari and Panchakanya Devi. As the weather clears with the onset of winter and beautiful scenery can be seen from the Rauta area, many tourists come to the area, says Ward Chairman Rai. Bam Prasad Timsina, a local of Rauta, says that eight mountain ranges including Sagarmatha, Amadablam, Lhotse, Choyu, Kanchenjunga and Arun Barun can be seen from the Rauta area, which is located in a hilly area at an altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level. Similarly, in the south, Mithila, Janakpur, Kamala river, Siraha, Saptari, Saptakoshi river, Sunsari, Itahari can be seen. Homestay operator Buddhiman Magar said that tourists from Morang, Jhapa, Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Udaipur and Sindhuli areas in the eastern part of Nepal mainly come to Rauta area.
