POKHARA
A new trekking trial is being constructed to reach Mardi Himal, a famous tourist destination of Kaski. The construction of the road has been started at a cost of Rs. 1 million from the Gandaki state government and Rs. 1 million from public participation.

According to the Chairman of the Road Construction Committee, Bishwaraj Adhikari, under the construction of the trial, the road from Melbot to Astam will be paved, a total of 230 meters of stairs will be laid and 50 meters of railings will be constructed. About five kilometers of the road will be constructed from Melbot to Astam. Starting from the first week of November, 20 to 25 workers have been deployed daily for the construction of the road.

He is confident that the new trial will benefit the tourists who are enjoying the trekking as the tourist trials are being replaced by motorable roads recently. "Tourists will benefit from the footpath as the area is suitable in terms of the environment including religious and tourist and biodiversity including rhododendron Forest, Rudra Mahadev, Panchebaja Park, Sunjhankri's Than, Astam Deurali Maiko Temple," the official said.

According to him, beautiful red gourds can be seen in this area at a distance of about two kilometers from Pokhara. This is a five to seven-day walk. He said the trial would help connect Mardi Himal and Machhapuchche-Namuna Trek as well as create an environment for cycling to the highest places in the world. Adhikari informed that the work has been started from the budget of Rs. 1 million of the state government and the federal government has also allocated a budget for this. "While we are currently engaged in road construction through public participation in a limited budget, this road will be completed after the budget of the federal government comes."

Sushil Raj Poudel, president of the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAN) Western Region, said that institutional exercises have been done to link the trial with TAN model trekking. He said the trail would provide village-to-village connectivity and would be equally comfortable for both short-distance hiking and long-distance trekking.

The trial will reach Mardi Himal via Hemja's mailboat Sunjhankri, Astam and Dhampus. Harish Chandra Dhungana, Ward Chairman of Machhapuchche VDC-6, said that the construction of a new footpath in Mardi Himal, which is still a hotbed of domestic tourists despite the epidemic of Covid-19, is believed to prolong the stay of tourists and increase tourist activities in the region.
