The Nepal Army (NA) conducted an integrated drill at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) against plane hijacking based on its emergency action plan.
The drill was conducted so that various stakeholders, including the Army, could be mobilized in a coordinated and concerted manner against hijack incidents. Various units of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, TIA, and National Airlines Corporation among other stakeholders participated in the mock exercise.
The exercise included various mock activities ranging from plane landing to armed intervention and rescue of detainees in a coordinated way on condition that unscrupulous elements hijack or take hostage the aircraft.
“A special troop of the Buddhabhairab battalion performed the anti-hijack mock practice in the presence of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Prabhuram Sharma,” informed the NA Directorate of Public Relations and Information._Rss
