In this beautiful village surrounded by stunning hills with their unique culture and abundant natural settings the magnificent Simba Falls beckons. One of the reasons why people who visit Manikhel is this waterfall that is slowly gaining popularity. Simba falls is the combination of 5 small waterfalls in Manikhel.
Located at a distance of 50 km from Kathmandu, hiking up to the falls can be quite a slippery hour’s experience. The name comes from the Tamang language denoting how cold the water is. The waterfall lies amidst a green forest.
It’s difficult to get to the viewpoint from where we can see the Simba Fall with all of its 5 waterfalls. While it is a difficult hike it is certainly worth the effort. Also, the surrounding scenery is captivating. The sound of the waterfall is amazing and the welcoming cool breeze is the amazing reward.
Getting There
The most preferable route to the falls is via Ratnapark – Chapagaun- Manikhel. You can take a public bus or take a ride in your private vehicle. If you are traveling here through public transport then take the early bus and change to another bus that will take you to Manikhel.
After an hour or two hiking you will reach the waterfall but traveling to the place itself can take a few hours.
The ride to Manikhel is full of bumpy and muddy roads with potholes. But that’s part of the adventure.
Travel Tip
1.Situated at an altitude of 2000 meters with cold and damp weather wear warm and waterproof clothing. Be prepared for some leeches if you are traveling here during monsoon.
2.Better to carry cash than to rely on ATM.
3.If you are traveling here through public transport better to stay overnight as returning on the same day might be difficult. If in a private vehicle keep your tank full.
4.The best time to explore this place is during August-September.
5.Visit the local factory and pick up a bottle of medicated oil.
