11, Apr 2024 | nepaltraveller.com

The Pikey Peak Trek offers stunning panoramic views of some of the world's highest peaks, including Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu.

The Pikey Peak Trek is a lesser-known but incredibly rewarding trekking route in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal. Named after Sir Edmund Hillary's famous climbing partner, Sir Edmund Hillary himself suggested this trek as one of the best viewpoints in Nepal. The Pikey Peak Trek offers stunning panoramic views of some of the world's highest peaks, including Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu.

The highlight of the trek is reaching Pikey Peak, standing at an altitude of 4,065 meters (13,333 feet). From the summit, trekkers are treated to breathtaking sunrise and sunset views over the Himalayas, making it a photographer's paradise. As trekkers elevate the higher landscape is filled with rhododendron forests and yak pastures. The trail gradually ascends through small villages, lush forests, and terraced farmland, providing opportunities to experience the local culture and hospitality of the Sherpa and Rai communities.

Along the way, trekkers pass through traditional villages, visit Buddhist monasteries, and witness local wildlife such as musk deer, pheasants, and Himalayan thars. One of the unique aspects of the Pikey Peak Trek is its relative solitude compared to more popular routes like Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit. Trekkers can enjoy the calmness of the Himalayan wilderness without the crowds, making it a perfect choice for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure.
