As many as 3,600 kilograms of solid waste has been collected from Myagdi-based Annapurna First Mountain.

The Nepal Army's clean mountain campaign has successfully collected 3,600 kilograms of solid waste from Mount Annapurna and its base camp located in Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, Narchyang of Myagdi. Led by NA Mayor Gajendra Deuba, a team of 10 NA personnel and 13 from Peak Promotion Travel Agency carried out the clean-up operation for 48 days, starting on April 10 and ending on May 9. Captain Bhim Bahadur Bhujel led the team that reached the 8,091-meter peak of Annapurna and collected garbage there.

Out of the total waste collected, 1,200 kilograms were biodegradable, while 2,400 kilograms were non-biodegradable. The biodegradable waste was managed in Bhusaket under the supervision of the representatives of the Annapurna Youth Club in Narchyang. The non-biodegradable waste was airlifted to Dana of Myagdi via a helicopter owned by Prabhu Air and sent to the NA headquarters in Kathmandu by truck.

The clean-up campaign on Mount Annapurna and its base camp was conducted after 72 years since mountaineering was allowed. The increase in the number of mountaineers and trekkers had caused waste to pile up in the area, causing an environmental imbalance. The campaign was initiated to send a message that waste dumping in the mountains is unacceptable.

The NA has conducted the 'Clean Mountain Campaign 2023" in Mount Annapurna, Sagarmatha, Lhotse, and Barunche Peaks. The Pokhara metropolis contributed Rs 1.5 million to the NA for the "Clean Mountain" campaign. Earlier, the NA had conducted clean-up operations in the 8,000-meter-high Dhawalagiri and Manaslu mountains located in the Gandaki province. In 2022, the NA collected 7,157 kilograms of biodegradable waste from the Mount Everest, Lhotse, Manaslu, and Kanchanjunga peaks._Rss
