A report has been prepared on the reconstruction of the historic Ranipokhari in Bhaktapur. The municipality had formed the Ranipokhari Study Committee under the coordination of cultural expert and historian Prof. Dr. Purushottam Lochan Shrestha for the reconstruction of the historical Ranipokhari at Bhaktapur Municipality-1, Salaghari.

It is said that the committee has prepared the report after studying all the aspects including the historical aspect of Ranipokhari and the original appearance of the pond. The municipality is reconstructing the pond on the basis of the same committee and report. The committee has handed over the report to Bhaktapur Municipality on Wednesday.

On the occasion, Chief of Bhaktapur Municipality Sunil Prajapati said that the work of reconstruction and restoration of Bhaktapur's heritage is being intensified by documenting the historical heritage of Bhaktapur. "In coordination and cooperation with the Nepal Army, the reconstruction of Bhaktapur's historic Ranipokhari and protection of public property has been taken forward," said Mayor Prajapati. "Bhaktapur has also provided technical and necessary artisans for the reconstruction of Kathmandu's Ranipokhari."

Mayor Prajapati said that the municipality is moving ahead with the objective of accepting the public property of Bhaktapur as the common property of the people. He said that he was also emphasizing reviving the history of Bhaktapur.

Deputy Chief Rajni Joshi said that the reconstruction work has been started by conserving the Ranipokhari of Bhaktapur which has been dilapidated for a long time after the restoration of the people's representative. Stating that various studies and researches have been done during the reconstruction of Ranipokhari and new facts and evidence have been obtained from it, he thanked the Ranipokhari Study Committee task force.

Former Director-General of the Department of Archeology, Bishnu Raj Karki, lauded the work of the Bhaktapur Municipality in rebuilding the tangible and intangible heritage of the Kathmandu Valley in an original style.

Stating that it is important to maintain the original form of the heritage in the process of reconstruction and restoration, he pointed out the need to conduct research on the ponds in the valley and construct the environment around the ponds in an environmentally friendly manner.

Prof. Dr. Shrestha, Coordinator of the Ranipokhari Study Committee Working Group, informed that the archeological name of Ranipokhari of Bhaktapur, which was built 40 years before the construction of Ranipokhari of Kantipur, is 'Nhu Pukhu'. Explaining the historical significance of Ranipokhari, Prof. Dr. Shrestha said that the history of the construction of Ranipokhari in Bhaktapur in a short period of five months has come to light from the inscriptions there.

Architect Sarita Dhukhwa of Bhaktapur Municipality Heritage Branch gave a 3D presentation on the historic Ranipokhari. The 3D presentation was presented by Ram Govind Shrestha, Member Secretary of the Task Force.
