Khichara festival will be held in Khairahani of East Chitwan from Thursday. This is the eighth edition of the festival organized by Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha Chitwan Region No. 7 every year on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti.
The festival will be held from Poush 28 to Magh 4. According to the coordinator of the main organizing committee of the festival, Krishnalal Chaudhary, the lifestyle and costumes of the Tharu caste from all over the country will be given priority. He informed that efforts have been made to gather the food of the Tharu of 25 districts where they live.
Idols of Ghongi and Poka (chichar) will also be placed at the festival site. Apart from that, there will be 150 commercial rooms including 30 hotels. There will also be an agricultural promotion complex at the festival. Various competitive programs such as district-level volleyball, open painting, school-level dance, and village storytelling will also be conducted at the festival. According to the organizer, all the preparations are almost complete.
“The work of building the entrance, stage, and hall for the festival has reached its final stage. The festival will greatly help in the revival of identity and culture along with the costumes of this caste,” said Coordinator Chaudhary._Rss
