The fourth edition of Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon will be held on 11th Baisakh. It aims to encourage the runners as well as promote both domestic and international tourism.

The Rara Ultra Marathon from Jumla's headquarter, Khalanga, to Rara Lake in Mugu will be held in the coming Baisakh. Karnali Sports Club district president Saroj Shahi informed that the fourth Rara Ultra Marathon is going to be held on 11th Baisakh under Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon.

The competition is to be organized to honour world record runner Hari Bahadur Rokay and to develop sports tourism in Karnali. President Shahi said, "After the success of the previous three editions, the club is going to organize the tournament on the 11th of Baisakh. "

He said that the preparation for the competition is being done rapidly in honour of runner Rokaya. In order to organize and make the next tournament successful, the check point sub-committee and preparations are being made to welcome and entertain the players in the markets and villages along the route of the race.

The distance of the competition is 49 km which starts from the courtyard of Chandannath Bhairavanath Temple, a famous religious place of Karnali and ends at the Hutu side of Rara Lake. Chairman Shahi said that in the past three competitions, around 300 to 400 players from home and abroad participated, and this year, it is estimated that around 2000 players will participate.

Players from 18 districts of Nepal as well as UK, Netherlands, India, Italy and America participated in last year's competition. Cash, medals and certificates will be awarded to 28 runners in various categories of the upcoming competition. The winner of the marathon, male and female, will be awarded Rs 100,000 each, the second runner-up Rs 75,000, the third runner-up Rs 50,000, the consolation runner-up Rs 20,000 and the fifth runner-up will be awarded a certificate and medal with Rs 20,000.

Similarly, there will be a short running competition of five kilometers distance among the students. In the said competition, the first place winner will be awarded 5000, the second placer will be awarded 3000 and the third placer will be awarded 2000, along with certificates and medals.

Similarly, there will be a five-kilometer race between employees, businessmen and industrialists and a one-kilometre race for children. Attractive prizes have been arranged for the first, second and third place in the competition. According to the Karnali Sports Club, it is estimated that Rs. 2.2 million will be spent on the tournament. Runner Hari Bahadur Rokaya said that the goal is to continue this competition._RSS
