Besides, 2,795 deaths were reported since Sunday morning, taking the death toll to 331,895. The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 5,177 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the tally in the Southeast Asian country to 1,235,467. Metro Manila and the adjacent areas will remain under "heightened (lockdown) restrictions" amid a steady increase in infections in the capital, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised press conference. Thailand reported 2,230 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, less than half the number for the previous day, its Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said.
The notable drop in daily cases largely came as a result of a remarkable decline in the new infections recorded in prisons, CCSA spokesperson Taweesin Visanuyothin said at a daily briefing. The Southeast Asian country reported 38 more deaths from the coronavirus epidemic, taking the COVID-19 related death toll to 1,069. Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang said on Tuesday that the capital city will follow the CCSA's directive to extend the closure of service venues for another 14 days due to the pandemic situation.
Pakistan recorded 1,771 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Monday with a test positivity rate of 3.72 percent, marking an obvious drop in the Asian country's daily cases, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said. According to the NCOC, the total number of confirmed cases in the country rose to 922,824 Tuesday, including 844,638 recoveries. According to the NCOC, 71 more deaths from the coronavirus epidemic were recorded in the last 24 hours nationwide, raising the COVID-19 related death toll to 20,850.
