'Devchuli Hill', the choice of trekkers

Currently, Nawalpur and the nearby areas’ trekkers favour this location

The 'Devchuli Hill' of Nawalpur has become a major destination for trekkers. Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) Located in Devchuli Municipality of Nawalpur, this place is located at an altitude of about 1,934 meters above sea level.

From here, one can see different parts of Nawalpur, Tanahun, Palpa, Kaski and Chitwan. The view of the beautiful snow range seen from the top of Devchuli Hill to the north makes anyone who comes here happy. In addition, the Narayani River in the south, dense settlements along the East-West Highway, the area of Chitwan National Park and the plains can be easily seen from the hill.

This place is located on the north side of the east-west highway. There are two routes leading to Devchuli Hill. One can go through Kirtipur of Devchuli Municipality and the other from Kusot via Pokhari to Devchuli Hill. Transport facilities are available up to Kirtipur and Pokhari. When you go through the pond, you have to go north from the swamp of about 20 kilometers. There is a distance of 12 kilometers from Kirtipur. Then the walkway begins.  After walking for about three hours, you can reach Devchuli Hill.

Most of the people who go to Devchuli hill pass through the pond. Many people use this route because of the decrease in vertical climb as it passes through it. Some of those who pass through this route reach Bojhapokhari the previous evening. Since there is also a home stay here, they stay at home at night, eat local dishes of the hills, enjoy cultural programs and go on foot in the morning.

This place is also one of the major tourist destinations of the district. There are also natural caves, temple of Teenkanya Mai, view tower and other structures along with the natural view seen from the hill. There is also a legend that five Pandavas lived in secret here in ancient times. The Tharu community performs special puja at Devchuli Hill every year on the day of Chaitra Purnima. On that day, a fair is also held on the hill. The Tharu community believes that worshiping here will bring happiness and prosperity to their family.

"Devchuli Hill is indeed a very interesting place, i came for the first time, the snow range seen near the hill, the tops of the hills and the field seen in the south are very attractive.  It would be better if the necessary number of hotels were arranged in the middle of the trekking and quality accommodation for those coming the previous day.” Said Local Folk Timilsina
