Circular Dhaulagiri Pathway

Lack of infrastructure and immense potential characterize the circular Dhaulagiri pathway.

Seven years later, guide Chiri Rai traveled alone with tourists to Dhaulagiri. Rai, the owner of Asaki Treks and Expeditions in Kathmandu, has brought tourists dozens of times on the Dhaulagiri cycle path.

Located in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 Mudi, the circular Dhaulagiri footpath, which is the seventh (eight thousand one hundred and sixty-seven meters) the highest mountain in the world, passing through the base camp of Mustang Mountain, is known for adventure trekking. Tourists pass through this footpath, again and again, to visit the Dhaulagiri base camp area and also to climb Dhaulagiri.

Since the road track has been constructed from Beni, the headquarters of Myagdi to Mudigaon, after reaching there by vehicle, Bagargaon can be reached in a day's journey. From Bagar to Dobhan, from Dobhan to Sallaghari-Itali base camp, one has to trek for about four days to reach the Dhaulagiri base camp. In recent years, even though budgets have been allocated for footpaths through the rural municipality, the Ministry of Tourism, and the provincial government, the construction of footpaths have not been accelerated due to a lack of sufficient funds.

Pointing out that there is also a lack of tourism culture in the settlements covered by the Dhaulagiri footpath, Pun pointed out the need for the local government to pay attention to the development of tourism culture among the locals, building tourism infrastructure and promoting the footpath widely. Although there is a homestay in Bagargaon under this trail, it has not been made effective and organized, while the capacity of the hotels in Dobhan, Sallaghari, and Italy basecamps is not sufficient.

Due to the lack of access to communication in most areas of this footpath, tourists are forced to be deprived of immediate rescue due to health problems and emergency times, while the footpath from the base camp to Italy is not permanent and the route is changed every year. After Italy moved from the base camp, there is a lack of suspension bridges in the Myagdi river gorge. In the absence of a bridge, one has to move dangerously over the frozen glacier itself.

“Although the Dhaulagiri footpath is scenic in nature, there has been no improvement or change in the state of tourism development. I have been to many mountains with tourists, the beauty like Dhaulagiri footpath is rare, but the development of tourism infrastructure here is very less compared to other areas” said Rai.

“If the access to footpaths, communications, hotels, and other infrastructure and facilities can be increased in this area, which foreign tourists consider as an adventure travel, domestic tourists can also be brought in in large numbers.” Said Rai, who led a group of Magdalenians in Hong Kong on a footpath tour

“Dhaulagiri footpath is an old footpath, initially one had to walk uphill and take risks in the mountains, later it became easier after digging a normal goret, but the construction of the footpath has not yet taken place, the compulsion to travel dangerously in places is still the same”, he added.

“Although the scenic views of high hills, mountains, dense forests, waterfalls, streams, and mountains are attractive, the lack of basic infrastructure for tourism development makes the journey difficult and risky.” Said Karna Bahadur Pun, who reached the base camp for the first time

“Our team of 23 people was successful in the journey to the base camp, although the goal was to travel on the circular footpath, we had to return from the base camp of the mountain due to adverse weather and lack of proper infrastructure. Anyone who goes on this footpath is attracted by its beauty, but due to the lack of adequate tourism infrastructure and facilities, they have to return to the tour again. I lose the courage to go,” said Pun

“Local art and culture should be made another basis for the development of tourism in this region by adding originality in food and hospitality. The natural scenery seen through the footpath and the strange and strange scenery seen after reaching the base camp made us realize that there is a place that must be reached once, but to expand it, we need to expand the access to infrastructure and facilities.” Said Indra LG Thapamagar, another tourist

“Although the circular Dhaulagiri trail that goes through the base camp at an altitude of 4,760 meters above the sea level and exits from the Leyte of Mustang is famous for adventure trekking, if the tourism infrastructure is ready, there is a possibility of increasing the arrival of domestic tourists in the trek to the Italian base camp at an altitude of 3,660 meters above the sea level,” said Businessman, Hariprasad Tilija._Rss
