'Thali Naach' has become an example of how original art and culture can attract the hearts of Nepalese. Raghuganga Rural Municipality-7 of Myagdi is the birthplace of the Chimkhola thali dance.
Hiramaya Pun Sris started the dance five decades ago. The thali dance, which is done while holding a plate and following the song’s beat and lyrics, has not only been practiced in India but also in seven other oceans. The image of women spinning and dancing while holding a plate is fascinating.
In the year 2028, Hiramaya Pun of Chimkhola performed the thali dance for the first time at the lake of Panchebaja. After performing at the SAARC conference in Kathmandu in 2044, Thalinach became national and internationalized.
A team of four including Hiramaya Pun and Dhankumari Thapa won first place in the 3rd National Folk Dance Competition held in Birganj in 2042 by presenting a collective Thali dance. In the year 2035 Shanti Pun and Dhankumari Thapa recorded a song about Thali dance. The music video of the song was shot in 2073.
In Chimkhola, along with thali naach, there are original cultures such as Jurechalla, Sharmazale, Kalash Judhane, Topa dance, wearing black hair to make the land happy. The original culture of Chimkhola is becoming attractive not only in Myagdi but also to Nepalese all over the world.
“Nepalese in Australia, America, Japan, Britain, and other countries organize Thali dances on special occasions or during their free time. Nepalese abroad have shown interest not only for entertainment but also for the preservation of folk culture,” said Dhruv Kumar Paiza of Chimkhola
“The song related to thali dance has also been 'recorded' and its popularity has increased even more. Thali dance has been performed not only at fairs and conferences held in different parts of the country but also abroad,” said Dhankumari Thapa, Folk artist.
“Due to the fact that they do not eat with a plate in their hands, this dance is known as ‘Thali Nanch’,” said Prakash Shrestha, an old folk singer of Myagdi._Rss
