Tikapur Park offers a tranquil atmosphere, beautifully decorated lawns, and seasonal and non-seasonal flowers. King Mahendra, who was suffering from heart disease, slept in Tikapur in 2024. As the king found it hard to run the state from Tikapur, he returned to Kathmandu to develop the city and build a park on the Karnali River bank.
In the year 2028, under the Ministry of Physical Planning and Construction, the Tikapur Development Committee was established and the government gave the right to develop the city by giving 3,173 bighas of land. These infrastructures, which have been invested in millions are now owned by the municipality after the removal of the Tikapur Development Committee. There is a park on the banks of Karnali River four kilometers away from Tikapur market. The park is spread over an area of 85 bighas, of which the bungalow area, nursery, and garden occupy about 13 bighas of land. The Tikapur Development Committee has built infrastructure worth crores of rupees including Mahendra Arogya Griha, Ratna Udyan, Birendra Vishram Batika, and Aishwarya Udyan in the park area.
As the wooden railings built in the park are rotting and collapsing, the health center and restroom are also dilapidated, and the municipality has been repairing them every year. After the operation of the Tikapur Big Park Municipality, which was run for about four decades with the help of the Tikapur Development Committee, some infrastructures such as the construction of park gates, ticket counters, picnic areas, etc.
“The Park was very enjoyable. We have come here to visit the families gathered during Tihar, and we have come here to see Tikapur Park and Karnali Bridge Chisapani. After reaching the park, we also saw the residence of King Mahendra himself, Karnali flowing on the bank of the park, we felt calm after reaching there. And it was fun.” Said Subhash Sharma, who came to visit the park from Jhapa.
"It felt like heaven, the sound of chirping birds in the peaceful environment, the sound of the babbling brook, the beautifully decorated house, the flower garden was a special joy and the joy of rafting. Many friends had headaches during their journey, but after reaching here, they felt relieved." Said Nisha Ukheda, who came from Beljadi in Kanchanpur to visit the park.
“Everyone should pay attention to the development of the park. The infrastructure could not be developed in the park, the gate is good to look at, but we are lagging behind in terms of cleanliness inside. Even political parties don't seem to pay attention to park development." said the local Bhubaneswar
“Tikapur Municipality is trying to avoid inconvenience in the management of Shahi Park. We are trying to build infrastructure, the park is not only our pride but also our identity.
