Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa has made mountaineering history by summiting Mount Everest four times in a single season, earning a Guinness World Record and setting a new benchmark in Himalayan alpinism.

In a season when most climbers prepare for a single summit attempt, Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa achieved the extraordinary. He secured the Guinness World Record for the Most Ascents of Everest in a Single Season, summiting Mount Everest four times within just two weeks.

His ascent timeline reflects both endurance and versatility:

  • May 9 - Summit as part of the rope-fixing team, opening the route for the season.
  • May 14 - Solo ascent.
  • May 19 - Summit while guiding a client.
  • May 23 - Solo climb to secure the world record.

Each climb required a distinct skill set, from the physical demands of load carrying and technical fixing, to the responsibility of guiding at extreme altitude, to the focus and efficiency of solo climbing above 8,000 metres.

Since beginning his mountaineering career in 2017, Sherpa has built a formidable Himalayan resume. Beyond Everest, he has summited Cho Oyu, Manaslu, Ama Dablam, and Shishapangma, peaks renowned for their technical and high-altitude challenges. He has also served on rope-fixing teams on major expeditions, undertaking the critical yet often under-recognised work of securing routes at extreme elevations.

Trained at the Khumbu Climbing Centre and holding first aid certification, Sherpa exemplifies a new generation of Nepali high-altitude professionals, climbers whose expertise spans technical rigging, expedition logistics, rescue readiness and elite athletic performance.

His record is more than a statistic; it signals a continuing shift in how the world recognises Nepal’s mountaineers, not merely as expedition support, but as world-class athletes leading Himalayan alpinism.
